I am a PhD candidate in sociology at the University of Minnesota. My research is grounded in cultural sociology with a focus on the intersections of religion and nonreligion, identity and community, and civic engagement. My dissertation is an ethnographic case study of a "secular congregation," The Sunday Assembly. I currently work on research projects like the American Mosaic Project and the Talking About Social Controversies project where I use both qualitative and quantitative data to explore the presence and meaning of symbolic boundaries and moral discourses in the United States.
